ICE ROAD BETWEEN BAYFIELD, WISCONSIN
& MADELINE ISLAND

Wisconsin's ice
road
is somewhat unusual in that it exists only a few months
each year. A popular television show recently profiled
the challenges and dangers of driving heavy-laden trucks
along the ice roads of northern Canada, but, as you
can see from these photos shot by Rod Ness, smaller
vehicles also carry out assignments on seasonally frozen
roadways in other areas. These photos were taken on
the ice road constructed each winter on Lake Superior
between Bayfield, Wisconsin on the mainland and LaPointe,
Wisconsin on Madeline Island.
