It always nice when crops
are identified, as they have been on this nicely lettered
sign on a cottonwood shoe tree at mile marker 89.5 on US Highway
26 near Mitchell, Oregon. We photographed this on July 15,
2005.
Then, less than a mile away
(mile marker 89), we caught sight of this shoe-bearing ponderosa
pine! Although it appears to be a newer entry in the shoe
tree pantheon (with fewer than a hundred pairs), it has inspired
donors to aim high!
