| Tracks
and Trails |
|
| Based
in Grand Junction, Colorado, Tracks and Trails provides
custom-planned RV vacations in North America. Customers
receive detailed "Adventure Kits" which
include maps, daily itineraries, camping & attraction
reservations, and hands-on advice and tips from
the owners who are accomplished RV adventurers.
The company also arranges for the RV rental as part
of their package of services. |

My
Trip Map (supported by
Tourient)
|
|
| Based
in New York City, My Trip Map produces roadtrip
itineraries for a variety of countries around the
world. Unlike the Tracks & Trails format, Tourient
prepares a detailed dossier of information about
a potential road trip that includes maps, and background
information for a range of lodging, dining and attractions
alternatives along a specified route. This dossier
typically includes 30+ pages of information and
is purported to be based upon the owner's extensive
background as a movie location scout. |
| TripData
|
|
| Based
in Lafayette, Colorado, TripData also provides roadtrip
planning services. The format for TripData's services
seems to be blend of both Tracks & Trails and
those of Tourient. Basic planning fees are in the
range of $30 to $75 per day of travel. Upon payment
of a deposit and execution of an agreement, TripData
personnel will prepare road trip packages. |

Hub Specialty Travel |

| This
site describes itself as the "
largest
Internet portal on specialty travel
"
Including self-guided road trips around the world.
A few trial searches on the site's planning engine
failed to deliver any itineraries, but the site
is worth a visit. |
| Microsoft
Streets and Trips |
|
| Contibutors
to the Great
American RoadTrip Forum consistently recommend
this trip planning software highest of available
products. Road construction updates can be dowloaded
from the Web, and the software itself can be upgraded
to support GPS for on-the-road navigation. |
| DeLorme's
Street Atlas/Earthmate |
|
| Users
report that Earthmate USB is easy to use "right
out of the box" for on-the-road navigation.
DeLorme maps provide great detail for rural areas,
but DeLorme's data is not as accurate overall as
the NavTech information used by Microsoft and Rand
McNally. |
| Rand
McNally's Streetfinder/Tripmaker |
|
| Although
the online version of Rand McNally's mapping software
is good, in our view Streetfinder doesn't measure
up well against the equivalent Microsoft and DeLorme
products. |
